Our Maryland DREAM

Maryland’s great strength is that of our people, our diversity, and the investments that we continue to make in our children. That’s why we have ranked “First in the Nation” in K-12 education for the last three years. But for children who are undocumented immigrants, a glass ceiling exists that has impairs their success, and the success of our economy. That’s why I was so proud to co-sponsor and work for the passage of this year’s DREAM Act – a new law that will allow children who are undocumented, but who graduated from Maryland high schools, to receive in-state tuition in the Maryland community colleges.

Budget Amendments Accepted

Very pleased that the Senate Budget & Taxation Committee accepted two of my amendments: Requiring Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to study options for addressing co-occurring disorders; and requiring the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations and the Maryland Racing Commission to come up with a plan for public employee benefits.
